Oley Valley grad Sophia Gladieux, a senior field hockey player at Penn State, has been selected to compete for the U.S. Women’s National Team in its two-game series against New Zealand next month.
She will join three other Berks high school grads who are members of the national team in Twin Valley’s Ashley Hoffman and Kelee Lepage and Hamburg grad Karlie Kisha. There are 26 players on the U.S. roster to face New Zealand.
The games will be held Dec. 9-10 at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and serve as preparation for January’s FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifier. At that qualifier in Ranchi, India, the U.S. will be one of eight teams competing for three spots in the Paris Games.
Gladieux had 21 goals and three assists in 17 games this season for the Nittany Lions and was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year for the second straight season.
Hoffman (109 international appearances), Lepage (25) and Kisha (51) are veterans of the U.S. National Team
