Oley Valley grad Sophia Gladieux, a senior forward at Penn State, has been named a Division I first-team All-American in field hockey for the third straight year, and Wilson grad Sarah Gatehouse, a senior defender at Kutztown University, has been named a first-team Division II All-American for the second straight season.
Gladieux and Gatehouse are among five players with Berks ties who were named to teams announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association on Tuesday.
Exeter grad Peyton Halsey, a grad student at Northwestern, made the Division I third team at forward.
In Division II, Kutztown’s Juliana Donato, a junior midfielder, made the first team, while Oley Valley grad Madison Kline, a senior forward at East Stroudsburg, made the second team.
Each team had 16 players. There were three teams in Division I and two in Division II.
Gladieux is a four-time All-American, having been named to the second team as a freshman in 2020. She led the Nittany Lions (4-4 Big Ten, 9-8) in scoring with 45 points on a team-leading 21 goals and three assists in 17 games.
She was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year for the second straight season, and was selected to the All-Big Ten first team and the NFHCA Mideast Region first team each for the fourth straight season. She also was named to the All-Big Ten Tournament Team.
Gladieux ranks fourth all-time in scoring at Penn State with 158 points (74 goals, 10 assists). She has 22 game-winning goals.
Halsey led national runner-up Northwestern (8-0 Big Ten, 21-2) in goals (13) and points (36). She also had 10 assists in helping the Wildcats win the Big Ten regular season and tournament championships.
She also was selected to the All-Big Ten first team, the NCAA All-Tournament Team and the NFHCA West Region first team.
Gatehouse helped the Golden Bears (7-2 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, 19-3) win the first NCAA Division II team championship in school history.
She anchored a defense that allowed just 11 goals to rank first in Division II. She also finished tied for second on the team in scoring with 19 points on seven goals and five assists.
Gatehouse was named the PSAC Defensive Athlete of the Year and selected to the All-PSAC first team and the NCAA Division II All-Tournament Team. She also was the PSAC Champion Scholar for the second straight year.
She was awarded the Elite 90 Award for this year’s NCAA Division II championships in field hockey. The award is given to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site of each NCAA championship.
Donato, a first-team All-PSAC selection, finished with three goals and 11 assists. She ranked tied for fourth in Division II in assists.
Kline, a second-team All-PSAC selection, had a team-high 11 goals and five assists for a team-high 27 points for the Warriors (8-1, 18-3), who won the PSAC Tournament title.
