Oley Valley loses to Lancaster Mennonite in District 3 Class 2A boys soccer championship

Oley Valley fell short in its quest for back-to-back district titles on Saturday.

After a scoreless 80 minutes of regulation, the Lynx lost 1-0 in overtime to Lancaster Mennonite in the District 3 Class 2A boys soccer championship game at Hersheypark Stadium. Matthew Sampsell scored the golden goal for the Blazers just over six minutes into the first overtime period.

“I take nothing away from my guys, they battled,” Oley Valley coach Shawn Meals said. “They fight. They never give up.”

Lancaster Mennonite dominated possession for the majority of the contest, forcing the Lynx to generate offense via the counterattack. Oley Valley had just one shot on goal in the game.

“You got to score goals to win games,” Meals said. “We just didn’t generate the opportunities that we needed to.”
