Orwigsburg Memorial Day Parade honors those who gave the ultimate sacrifice

Community members took time during the annual Orwigsburg Memorial Day Parade to honor the American men and women who lost their lives while serving in the military.

Led by the Honor Guard and Rifle Company, the May 27 event included American Legion members, veterans, area youth teams, Scouts, afire companies, Orwigsburg Lions Club tractors and performances by the Pottsville Third Brigade Band, Blue Mountain High School Marching Band and Hawk Mountain Highlanders.

The parade formed at the Orwigsburg Veterans Community Hall on Grove Street and continued on Washington, East Market, West Market Street, North and South Franklin, Independence, Mifflin and North and South Warren.

A 21-gun salute, playing of taps and raising the American flag concluded the parade at the Town Square.

Following the parade, a Memorial Day service — moved indoors due to the weather forecast — was held in the Community Memorial Building on Grove Street.
