Parrot Head Club of Berks County raises money for Hannah’s Hope Ministries

A group that celebrates the music and lifestyle of musician Jimmy Buffet recently held an event that raised funds for a local homeless shelter.

The Parrot Head Club of Berks County held its annual Parrot Head Daze event on Aug. 24 at Jimmy G’s Beverly Hills Tavern in Spring Township. The event featured a full day of live music, food and fun, including opportunities to bid in a silent auction and participate in raffles.

The club is part of a larger network of Parrot Head clubs inspired by the music and lifestyle of Jimmy Buffett, with a mission to “party with a purpose” by supporting local communities.

This year, the Berks club did that by donating proceeds from the event to Hannah’s Hope Ministries, an organization that offers transitional housing and support programs to homeless mothers and their children in Berks.

“We are more than blessed and honored to be chosen this year by the Berks County Parrot Head Club to be the recipient of the proceeds from this event,” said Karen Marsdale, co-director of Hannah’s Hope. “Working with the members of the club has been amazing — they are clearly folks who have taken the words of the great Jimmy Buffet to ‘party with a purpose.’ Their commitment to the community of Berks County more than speaks for itself.”

Since its inception in 2002, Parrot Heads of Berks County has raised over $825,000 for various charitable organizations in Berks. Information on how much was raised during this year’s Parrot Head Daze was not immediately available.
