Penn State Berks to Host Global Forum by Alumna Peace Corps Volunteer, Oct. 2

from Penn State Berks

The Penn State Berks global studies program will host a global forum titled “A Year in the Peace Corps–Timor-Leste,” presented by alumna Jaymi Smith, from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m., on Wednesday, Oct. 2, in room 121, Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building. This event is free and open to the public.

Jaymi Smith earned a bachelor’s degree in global studies from Penn State Berks in spring 2023. Currently, she works with the Peace Corps in Timor-Leste, a small island in Southeast Asia. Smith will discuss her experiences as a Peace Corps volunteer, including what it’s like to live and work in a completely different culture, the challenges and rewards of living in a less developed country, and the important lessons learned about oneself along the way. She will also introduce the audience to the rich culture and history of Timor-Leste.

This presentation is sponsored by the Penn State Berks global studies degree program. For additional information about this event, contact Zohra Melaouah-Shaffer, program coordinator for the global studies degree program, at ZXG10@psu.edu.
