Penn State football team’s report card vs. FIU

Grading the Penn State football team on its 34-0 win over FIU on Saturday at Beaver Stadium:

Quarterbacks

C-: Drew Allar posted solid numbers without a turnover, but he missed open receivers and threw behind others.

Running backs

A-: Kaytron Allen and Nick Singleton combined for 220 yards and 2 touchdowns with only 2 explosive runs.

Receivers

A: Tight end Luke Reynolds had seven catches to go with the 10 that wide receivers Devonte Ross, Kyron Hudson and Trebor Pena had.

Offensive linemen

C-: Penn State struggled on third down and short-yardage situations and didn’t protect Allar well.

Defensive linemen

A: Ends Dani Dennis-Sutton and Chaz Coleman and tackles Enai White and Xavier Gilliam combined for seven tackles for loss.

Linebackers

A: Tony Rojas and Amare Campbell combined for 19 tackles and three quarterback pressures.

Defensive backs

A: King Mack and Kolin Dinkins made a couple of punishing hits, and Zakee Wheatley came up with a key pass breakup.

Special teams

B-: Gabe Nwosu boomed a 67-yard punt and Ross returned two punts for 23 yards, but Nwosu sent two kickoffs out of bounds and Ryan Barker missed a field goal.

Coaches

B+: The sideline operation was clean for the second straight game, and James Franklin rightfully went for fourth down four times.
