From Pennon Education
Pennon Education invites families to explore STEM concepts, ignite curiosity, think critically, and engage in artistic expression at “Ready, Set, Explore STEM & Media” on Saturday, Feb. 8, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., at the Reading Public Museum, 500 Museum Road, Reading. Registration is free at witf.org/rsereading.
“This community event offers families an interactive and engaging opportunity to explore the exciting world of STEM and media through leading educational technology, technology which children may not otherwise be able to access at home or in the classroom,” said Julia Lennox, Pennon Education Youth Voice and Media Literacy Director. “We hope to empower families to navigate and create content in today’s digital world.”
This free event provides an opportunity for families to discover and experience new technologies while building the skills needed to critically analyze content in today’s digital world. Families will also have the chance to meet Pennon Education’s original bilingual character, Tiara “Tia” Flora.
Families can:
- Use green screen technology to create a personalized GIF featuring Tia Flora.
- Help Tia explore her new city by coding Bee-Bots.
- Design an eye-catching ad for Tia’s new show.
- Develop skills to spot AI-created images and determine fact from opinion.
Tickets to “Ready, Set, Explore STEM & Media” include free admission to the museum and all of its exhibits, including two interactive “Wild Kratts” exhibits – “Creature Power” and “Ocean Adventure” – based on the popular PBS KIDS Series.
Each child who attends can choose a free book to keep. Titles include “Fact Vs. Opinion Vs. Robot” by Michael Rex and “The Girl Who Built a Spider” by George Brewington.
“Ready, Set, Explore STEM & Media” is designed for kids and teens, ages 3 to 14, and supported by The Donald B. and Dorothy L. Stabler Charitable Fund. This event is free and open to the public. Tickets can be reserved at witf.org/rsereading.
