Police: 3 injured when pit bull attacks in Tamaqua home; it takes officer 4 Taser shots to subdue it

A Tamaqua police officer used a Taser on a dog four times after it attacked and injured three women Saturday night, according to police.

Sgt. Thomas Rodgers said officers were dispatched to 409 W. Broad St., Apartment 3, for a reported disturbance.

Police said they met Byranna Rothrock, who was distraught and had bite marks on her arms and body. They determined that a pit bull had caused the wounds and requested EMS be dispatched.

Police said they then went into the apartment and found the dog locked onto the arm of Haylee Burns, who was screaming. Rodgers used the Taser on the dog. After the dog was stunned, it got up and went after Burns again, according to Rodgers.

Rogers said it took four Taser shots to subdue the dog, after which it was locked inside a bedroom.

After checking on Burns again, police said they discovered that her roommate, Jasmine Sadusky, had been attacked by the dog prior to the attack on Burns. A second EMS unit was called to the scene.

Police said the owner of the dog, Tina Rivera, then arrived home.

According to police, the incident was triggered when Rothrock raised her voice during an argument with a man at the apartment.

After the man left, the dog attacked Rothrock inside the apartment, police said.

Rivera told officers that her dog does not “do well” with other people and that it doesn’t like hearing screaming, police said.

It was unclear, police said, why the dog attacked Burns and Sadusky.

Police said they obtained shot records for the dog and provided copies to the hospital. A state dog warden was contacted to follow up on the incident.
