Police and medical crews respond to shooting in northwest Reading

Reading emergency crews responded to the city’s northwest for a shooting, later learning a male was hit multiple times, possibly six, according to initial emergency reports.

Crews were originally called to the 800 block of Ritter Street around 5:30 p.m. for a shooting, according to reports.

Then they were told someone was taking the victim via private vehicle.

Reading Hospital and West Reading police were alerted, according to reports, but it was unclear if the private vehicle got there.

Police and medical crews said they found a male with a gunshot wound to the upper torso in the street at Miltimore and West Buttonwood streets, according to emergency reports.

Within moments, they learned he had multiple wounds, possibly six.

They also learned there were no victims on Ritter Street.

A crime scene was created where the man was found. A firetruck was dispatched shortly after 7 p.m. on a call related to the aftermath of a shooting to West Douglass Street near Ritter, according to emergency reports.

It’s unclear how much the two sites were related.
