Police Reports, Jan. 12, 2023

The following information comes from police reports and court records.

Crash: State police at Schuylkill Haven responded to an accident on Route 183 South in Wayne Township on Dec. 30 at about 9 a.m.  William Lurwick Jr., 36, Schuylkill Haven, struck a traffic sign and two trees. He was charged with drunken driving and taken into custody. Lurwick suffered minor injuries but refused transport. His car was towed.

Crash: On Dec. 28 at about 12:45 a.m., state police at Schuylkill Haven responded to an accident on Deep Creek Road in Hegins Township. Erin See, 23, Schuylkill Haven, fell asleep behind the wheel. Her car drifted off the road and struck an embankment, then overturned. There were no injuries to See or her passengers. The car was towed.

Crash: On Dec. 25 at about 5:30 p.m. state police at Schuylkill Haven responded to a two-vehicle crash on Route 443, Deturksville Road. Blake Bender, 18, Williams, and Gary Wolfe, 74, Pine Grove, were both headed west. Wolfe activated his left turn signal and attempted to turn into his driveway. Bender could not stop in time and hit Wolfe’s SUV. There were no injuries. Bender’s vehicle was towed.

Crash: On Dec. 24 at about 1:10 p.m. state police at Schuylkill Haven responded to an accident in the parking lot at the Fairlane Village Mall. The driver of an SUV struck the bumper of a pickup truck while backing up, then fled. Surveillance video established the vehicle’s make and model, but the registration plate was unclear.

Crash: On Dec. 24 at about 7 p.m., state police at Schuylkill Haven responded to a one-car accident on Fearnot Road in Hubley Township. A truck driven by Gary Miles, 77, Weatherford, Texas, struck a guide rail, traveled off the road and struck an embankment. The truck came to an uncontrolled stop on its right side off the road.

Crash: On Dec. 23 at about 5:20 p.m. state police at Schuylkill Haven responded to an accident on Route 61 south of Manheim Road. Deborah Chitwood, 64, Orwigsburg, was stopped at a red light and struck from behind by an unidentified vehicle, which fled the scene. Chitwood’s passenger Bernice Sockwell, 85, Orwigsburg, was transported to Geisinger St. Luke’s Hospital for her injuries.

Drug Possession: On Dec. 23 at about 11 p.m. state police at Schuylkill Haven responded to Geisinger St. Luke’s Hospital in West Brunswick Township. Ricky Rehrer, 61, Pine Grove, was found to be in possession of drugs.

Crash: On Dec. 22 at about 5 a.m., state police responded to an accident on Coal Street in Port Carbon. A tractor trailer struck three vehicles when making a turn. The driver then fled.

Resisting Arrest: On Dec. 22 at about 6 a.m., state police at Schuylkill Haven made a traffic stop. The driver, Andrew Hamilton, had outstanding probation and parole warrants. Hamilton resisted arrest and will be charged at Magisterial District Judge Serina’s office for resisting arrest, bribery and additional violations.

Crash: On Dec. 22 at about 10 a.m., state police at Schuylkill Haven responded to an accident on Tremont Road north of Birch Street in Tremont Township. Rebecca McNellis, 42, Tremont, lost traction due to slippery conditions, and her SUV spun off the road, hit an embankment and rolled over onto its roof. McNellis was not injured.

Crash: On Dec. 22 at about 10:15 a.m., state police at Schuylkill Haven responded to an accident on Route 61 at Tumbling run Road in North Manheim Township. Vincent Bartashus, 22, New Philadelphia, lost control of his vehicle due to snow on the road and struck a tractor-trailer driven by Robert Ormiston, 60, Zion Grove. The truck ended up stuck on the shoulder of Route 61 due to the snowy conditions. There were no injuries.

Crash: On Dec. 22 at about 11:20 a.m., state police at Schuylkill Haven responded to an accident on Route 61 at Builtwell Road in North Manheim Township. Ryan Sisko 19, Schuylkill Haven, lost control of his vehicle while attempting to make a turn. Patrick McGeever III, 42, Pottsville, was traveling directly behind Sisko’s car and collided with it. Sisko’s vehicle was towed from the scene.

Crash: On Dec. 22 at about 12:25 p.m., state police at Schuylkill Haven responded to an accident on Molleystown Road at Tremont Road in Tremont Township. A truck driven by Freddie Downie, 32, Pottsville, slid into a car driven by Howard Dingman, 65, Endicott. who was stopped at a stop sign. There were no injuries, and both vehicles were driven from the scene.

Crash: On Dec. 22 at about 1:15 p.m., state police at Schuylkill Haven responded to an accident on Route 61 south of Route 895 in West Brunswick Township. Brooke Russell, 21, Shenandoah, lost control of his vehicle, which struck a concrete barrier and spun. There were no injuries.

Crash: On Dec. 22 at about 3:30 p.m., state police at Schuylkill Haven responded to an accident on Tumbling Run Road east of Brokhoff Lane in North Manheim Township. Jacob Koch, 19, New Ringgold, lost control of his vehicle due to driving too fast for slippery conditions, and hit an embankment. Koch was not injured. The vehicle had disabling damage and was towed.

Crash: On Dec. 19 at about 8:30 p.m., state police at Schuylkill Haven responded to an accident on Route 61 at Pottsville Street in North Manheim Township. Ethan Meyers, 18, Port Carbon, struck a car driven by Michelle Knorr, 38, Ashland, while attempting a turn. There were no injuries. Both vehicles were towed.

Crash: On Dec. 15 at about 7:30 a.m. state police at Schuylkill Haven responded to an accident on South Greenview Road at Route 61 South in North Manheim Township. Dorrian Reilly, 20, Cressona, attempted to make a turn when her vehicle skidded due to slippery road conditions, then hit an embankment. Reilly was not injured. The vehicle had disabling damage.

Crash: State police responded to an accident on Route 61 west of Coal Mountain Road in West Brunswick Township on Dec. 15 at about 10:10 a.m. Marella Knight, 56, Hamburg, lost control of her vehicle on the slippery road. It hit a guide rail, spun and stopped facing oncoming traffic. Knight was able to drive it to the shoulder. She was not injured. The SUV was towed due to disabling damage.

Theft: Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the theft of a 2016 black trailer XKJ4508 owned by Bri-Mar Manufacturing, Chambersburg on Dec. 14. The trailer was taken from South Route 183 in Wayne Township.

Crash: On Dec. 12 at about 2:20 p.m., state police at Schuylkill Haven responded to an accident on Village Road east of Willow Village Road in West Brunswick Township. An unidentified vehicle appeared to have taken a turn too wide in the parking area of Village Road and struck a garage causing significant damage. The driver then fled.

Criminal Mischief: On Dec. 11 at about 12:20 a.m. state police at Schuylkill Haven were called to the parking lot of Hot Rod Bar & Grill, 19 Front St., Cressona, for a report of a vehicle striking two other vehicles. The driver, William Kirkwood, 27, Bethel, then fled the scene and crashed his vehicle on the Gordon Nagle Trail. Kirkwood was charged with drunken driving and criminal mischief.

Crash: On Dec. 9 at about 12:30 a.m., state police at Schuylkill Haven responded to an accident on W. Bacon Street in Palo Alto. Justin Marx, 32, Cumbola, struck an SUV parked along the road. Marx and his passenger, Jasmine Andrews, 32, Ashland, then fled the scene. The vehicles sustained minor damage. There were no injuries. Marx was charged with not stopping to give information and render aid.

Crash: On Dec. 8 at about 5:30 a.m., state police at Schuylkill Haven responded to an accident on Route 61 in West Brunswick Township. Melanie Ehst, 51, Douglassville, struck a deer. Ehst was not injured. The vehicle had disabling damage.

Crash: On Dec. 6 at about 11:30 p.m. state police at Schuylkill Haven responded to an accident on Route 183 South at Blue Mountain Road. Paul Eiler, 76, Mahanoy City, was driving too fast for conditions. His vehicle went off the left side of the road and down a slight embankment into a drainage ditch. Eiler showed signs of alcohol impairment and admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages prior to the accident. Eiler was not injured. The Hyundai was towed.

Theft: On Dec. 3 state police at Schuylkill Haven responded to a report of a theft of $80 from an Auburn man’s Venmo account. State police continue investigation.

Theft: A Pottsville woman reported to state police at Schuylkill Haven that sometime between Dec. 2 and Dec. 6 someone used her debit card information to purchase about $1,200 in items. State police are continuing their investigation.

Hit and Run: On Nov. 28 at about 6:50 p.m. state police at Schuylkill Haven were called to Burger King at 195 Pottsville Street in North Manheim Township for a reported hit and run. A box truck, attempting to go through the drive thru, made contact with an overhead clearance bar. The truck was identified as a Ford Econoline E350.
