Police reports, Oct. 7, 2021

The following information is taken from police reports and court records.

Crash: On Sept. 24 at about 4:15 p.m., state police responded to an accident on Hickory Drive in West Brunswick Township. Robert Spry, 37, Schuylkill Haven, was driving south when his car left the road. It went up a bank and appeared to hit branches or tree limbs. Spry got back onto the road but could not continue due to damage to his car.

Fatal crash: Gregory Calkins, 20, Pottsville, died in an accident on Sept. 23 on Route 901 at Interstate 81. State police said Calkins was riding a motorcycle that collided with a truck driven by William Thomas II, 51, Bowie, Md., Troopers said Thomas made a left turn toward the I-81 ramp, putting him the path of the motorcycle. Calkins was unable to slow down and struck the truck. Forensic Services Unit and the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service processed the scene. Both vehicles were towed. Charges will be filed against Thomas at magisterial district court in Orwigsburg.

Burglary: On Sept. 23, state police were dispatched to Camp Road in Tremont Township for a disturbance. When police arrived they were told that their neighbor forced his way into their house, then fled. Police found the neighbor, Zachary Fidler, 36, Pine Grove, at his residence and charged him with burglary, criminal trespass, simple assault, and harassment. He was taken into custody. Police are continue to investigate.

Criminal mischief: State police are investigating an incident on Sept. 21 at Bethel Road in Pine Grove Township. It was reported that someone shot at a building that was occupied. Damage to the exterior and interior walls was estimated at $1,000.

Trespass: On Sept. 19, state police responded to Middlecreek Road and East Center Street in Frailey Township. The resident told police someone placed a target under one of his posted no trespassing signs and shot at it. Anyone with information is asked to call state police at 570-754-4600 referring to incident PA2021-1279110.

Theft: On Sept. 19, state police were called to West Laurel Street in Tremont for the theft of a ladder. The resident told police someone took a silver aluminum ladder with blue plastic top from the front of her residence on Sept. 10. Anyone with information is asked to call 570-754-4600 referring to incident PA2021-1278820.

Crash: On Sept. 19 state police responded to an accident on Route 209 east of Bellas St., in Tower City. Eugenio Santiago, 18, Tower City, failed to yield and collided with a vehicle driven by Betty Barr, 74, Lebanon. Both vehicles veered off the road and struck a house causing damage. Both drivers were transported by Tower-Porter Community Ambulance to Lehigh Valley East Hospital for their injuries.

Theft: On Sept. 17, a Hegins woman reported to state police she lost a license plate to a trailer used for hauling snowmobiles. She became aware of the situation when she received a fine in the mail from the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission that the plate was seen going through a toll without paying. The license plate number is XDX-6438.

Crash: On Sept. 17, state police responded to an accident at the jug handle on Route 61 in North Manheim Township. Daniel Meade, 50, Mount Carmel, ran into the back of a tractor trailer driven by Aleksey Dimov, 65, Jacksonville, Fla. Meade’s car became disabled and came to a stop. Dimov continued driving before he realized he had been struck. Pottsville/Schuylkill Haven Area EMS transported Meade to Reading Hospital for his injuries.

Crash: On Sept. 15 at about 12:45 p.m. state police responded to an accident on Route 183 at Blue Mountain Road in Wayne Township. Police said Thomas Schalata, 67, Stevens, struck a tractor-trailer driven by Branden Webb, 27, Taylor. Schalata was transported by Pottsville/Schuylkill Haven Area EMS to Reading Hospital for his injuries.

Crash: State police responded to an accident on E. Adamsdale Road east of S. Greenview Road on Sept. 1 at about 3 a.m. Derek Shenk, 32, Schuylkill Haven was driving north on Adamsdale Road and ran the stop sign, left the road crashing into a traffic sign and an embankment before coming to a stop. Shenk was not injured.
