Police say report of a shooting at Wilson High School was a hoax

Spring Township police say a report of a shooting Friday morning at Wilson High School was a hoax.

About 9:45, police told parents who had been directed to GT Church that the earlier report Spring police had received of a shooting was a hoax.

Police searched the building and found no weapons or victims, school officials said.

They said the call was intended to provoke a police response.

They said school officials and police responded to the initial call as if it were an active shooter incident.

High school students were being dismissed at 10.

An automated message sent just before 9 a.m. from the school superintendent indicated there was no confirmed report of a shooting.

Police in tactical gear from several Berks County departments have been seen going into the building.

The superintendent’s initial message asked parents not to go to the school, which is under a lockdown.

About 9:20, the district sent out another automated message indicating that officers were breaking into smaller groups to conduct a more thorough search of the school.

This story will be updated.
