Public review period opens for highway, bridge and transit needs in Berks

The Reading Area Transportation Study is accepting comments on the draft 2025-28 Transportation Improvement Program, a regionally consensual list of priority projects.

Two meetings are scheduled for the public to review the plan and related documents and provide comments.

RATS is the designated metropolitan planning organization covering Berks County for transportation projects that receive federal and state funding.

The plan contains 112 projects totaling nearly $365.8 million for project phases to be advanced during that four-year period. It includes 95 projects or programs addressing highway and bridge needs and 17 projects addressing public transportation.

A copy of the draft plan can be found at the Berks County Planning Commission website, berkspa.gov/departments/planning-commission

The following meetings are scheduled:

• April 8 at 3 p.m. in the Berks County commissioners’ board room on the 13th floor of the county services center. This will be a hybrid meeting with participation available in-person and virtually.

• April 11 at 6 p.m. in the Berks County Agricultural Center, 1238 County Welfare Road, Bern Township. This meeting will be in-person only.

Feedback may also be made by email to planning@berkspa.gov and fax to 610-478-6316, or mail addressed to Berks County Planning Commission, 633 Court St., 14th Floor, Reading, PA 19601.

The public comment period ends April 23 at 5 p.m.

Any comments will be considered by the committee before final adoption of the plan, which is anticipated to occur at the group’s next meeting May 16.
