The Reading Buccaneers Drum & Bugle Corps won its second 2022 Drum Corps Associates competition in as many contests, notching a win over other corps Saturday night at Hempfield High School.
This is the first year competitions have returned following a two-year hiatus due to the COVID pandemic.
The Buccaneers is a nonprofit musical organization that was first formed in 1957 as a parade corps by various local junior corps and veterans of World War II and Korea. The group is a charter member of Drum Corps Associates and competes annually for the national championship title.
The group also performs at various venues including, parades, exhibitions, concerts and field shows.
At the competition this past weekend, the Buccaneers scored 78.40 out of a possible 100 points and took high honors in all scored captions: brass, percussion, music, music and visual and overall effect. Finishing in second were the Caballeros of Hawthorne, N.J., with 76.70 and placing third were the Bushwackers of Princeton, N.J., with 73.45.
