Reading Buccaneers win their 18th world championship

The Reading Buccaneers Drum & Bugle Corps won the 2022 Drum Corps Associates World Championship in Rochester, N.Y., Sunday night.

The Buccaneers scored a 97.60 out of a possible 100 points in World Class competition and took top honors in brass and overall effect. The Caballeros of Hawthorne, N.J., finished second with 96.725. The Bushwackers of Princeton, N.J., were third with 94.60, and the White Sabers of Gates, N.Y., took fourth with 90.80.

The Buccaneers’ win comes at the conclusion of the corps’ 65th anniversary season and follows a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19. It is the 18th world championship in the group’s history and its 14th since 2005

The group had four first-place and two second-place finishes in competitions this season.

The nonprofit musical organization was formed in 1957 as a parade corps by various local junior corps and veterans of World War II and Korea. The group is a DCA charter member and competes annually for the national championship.

The group also performs at events such as parades, exhibitions, concerts and field shows.
