The defending Drum Corps Associates world champion Reading Buccaneers Drum & Bugle Corps opened the 2023 competitive season with a win Saturday night at the 57th Annual Drum Corps Grand Prix at Clifton School Stadium in Clifton, N.J.
The Buccaneers earned a score of 81.15 out of a possible 100 points and swept all captions, taking high honors in brass, percussion, color guard, music, visual and effect. The host Caballeros of Hawthorne, N.J., finished second with 78.65, and the Bushwackers of Princeton, N.J., were third with 72.20.
The local group will host the Buccaneer Classic Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Hempfield High School in Landisville, Lancaster County. For more information, visit www.readingbuccaneers.org/classic.
