Reading firefighters responded to a two-alarm fire Friday afternoon in an apartment house on the south side of the city.
Crews were dispatched about 3:45 p.m. for a structure fire at 408 S. Ninth St. and found flames shooting from the second story windows, Lt. Trent Zulick of the city fire marshal’s office said
“We did call a second alarm for additional manpower due to the size of the building,” he said.
The building has been condemned due to the extensive damage, he said.
Zulick said there were no known injuries, but several people were displaced.
The Red Cross has been notified and will offer assistance, he said.
Members of the city’s fire investigative team are on the scene and the fire remains under investigation.
The building is owned by Reading Development Group LLC, according to online county tax records.
