Reading Fightin Phils postpone two games due to COVID issues with New Hampshire Fisher Cats

The first two games of the Reading Fightin Phils’ series against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats Tuesday and Wednesday at FirstEnergy Stadium have been postponed due to COVID-19 issues with the Fisher Cats, the Fightin Phils announced Monday night.

Reading was slated to open a six-game series Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. The team’s annual morning game was scheduled for Wednesday at 11 a.m.

In a statement, the Fightins said the games had been postponed “to allow for additional testing and contact tracing of members of the Fisher Cats organization.”

“We are adhering to Minor League Baseball’s health and safety protocols and will practice caution as we follow the guidance of experts,” the statement read. “Further updates will be provided as available.”

Ticket exchange and refund information is available at RPhils.com.

New Hampshire’s home doubleheader against the Portland Sea Dogs was postponed Sunday due to testing and contact tracing, the Fisher Cats said.

The Fisher Cats posted on Twitter that the testing and contact tracing did not involve fans, front office members or game day staff.

Also in the Double-A Northeast League, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies had a COVID issue that caused the cancellation of last week’s entire six-game series against the Richmond Flying Squirrels at Binghamton, N.Y. Again, additional testing and contact tracing were cited.

Binghamton had three more games canceled Sunday when a Tuesday doubleheader and Wednesday single game in Portland were called off.
