Reading High boys basketball unable to complete comeback in loss to Devon Prep

Reading High’s comeback effort fell just short on Wednesday night.

The Red Knights trailed by 17 after one quarter and methodically chipped away before tying it with just under two minutes to play. However, Reading was unable to take the lead, falling to Devon Prep 75-71 in the Reading Invitational championship game at Geigle Complex.

Reading (6-1) struggled early and was outscored 22-5 in the first quarter. Devon Prep played lock-down defense and disrupted the Red Knights’ offense.

Reading was forced into undesirable positions and missed several contested shots. The Tide also forced several turnovers, which turned into points at the other end of the floor.

Reading outscored Devon Prep 29-18 in the second quarter and trailed by only six at halftime. The Red Knights made several 3-pointers and took advantage of open layups to cut into the Tide’s lead.

However, Devon Prep never trailed in the second half. The Tide shot the ball with efficiency and converted crucial free throws to maintain momentum late in the game.
