Reading High forfeits two boys soccer wins, changing BCIAA playoff field

Reading High has forfeited two boys soccer wins, directly altering the BCIAA playoff picture.

Reading High informed District 3 officials it used an ineligible player in an 8-3 win over Gov. Mifflin on Oct. 1 and a 3-2 win over Daniel Boone on Oct. 5. Those games are now recorded as 1-0 victories for Reading’s opponents.

A District 3 official confirmed the forfeits. He said Reading forfeited the two games because it used a player “who had not cleared his supplemental ejection” protocols. Reading High officials did not immediately respond with an explanation.

The Gov. Mifflin victory vaulted the Mustangs from third place in Berks I into a first-place tie with Exeter. Exeter still wins the Berks I title based on an 1-0-1 record against Gov. Mifflin during the season.

Wilson, which was in second place and was in line to qualify for the playoffs, dropped to third and out of the playoff picture. The Bulldogs are not expected to make the field as one of the two wild cards.

The BCIAA boys soccer playoffs are scheduled to start Saturday. The quarterfinal matchups with times and sites will be released later on Thursday.

Exeter (Berks I champ), Gov. Mifflin (Berks I runner-up), Fleetwood (Berks II champ), Wyomissing (Berks III champ), Tulpehocken (Berks III runner-up) and Brandywine Heights (Berks IV champ) have earned automatic berths into the eight-team tournament.

The two remaining teams with the highest District 3 power rankings as of Thursday morning were Conrad Weiser and defending champion Oley Valley.
