Reading High junior Ruben Rodriguez was named the Player of the Year in boys basketball and Muhlenberg’s Matt Flowers was selected Coach of the Year in a vote of the Berks Conference coaches, the BCIAA announced Sunday.
Rodriguez, a 6-2 guard, is averaging 19.4 points a game for the Berks champion Red Knights (22-3), who are the No. 1 seeds in the District 3 Class 6A playoffs.
He was joined on the All-Berks team by Reading senior Daniel Alcantara, Berks Catholic junior Josiah Jordan, Muhlenberg senior Edwin Suarez, Exeter senior Colin Payne, Antietam senior Hector Tiburcio and Fleetwood junior Jake Karnish.
Rodriguez and Suarez are the lone repeat selections.
Flowers, a longtime Reading High assistant, has guided Muhlenberg to an 18-6 record in his first season, the Berks II title and the No. 12 seed in the District 3 Class 6A playoffs.
