Curbside leaf collection in Reading is set to begin.
Public works crews will begin picking up loose leaves in various areas throughout the city starting Oct. 14.
Residents are asked to not put grass clippings, branches, brush or other debris under or in the loose-leaf piles because they damage the equipment, officials said.
Leaves must be raked to the curb before the equipment moves through a block, the city said, noting crews will make periodic return trips through the 18th Ward and south of Penn areas, northeast and Hampden Heights areas, Hessian Camp and east Reading areas, northwest area, and Northmont, Riverdale and Glenside areas.
No schedule or pattern for curbside collection has been set, officials said.
The collection crew may be delayed for various reasons, including weather conditions, equipment and personnel availability, and emergencies.
The city announced the following schedule for bagged leaf collection, also beginning Oct. 14 and coinciding with normal yard waste collection days:
• Mondays: Northeast areas.
• Tuesdays: Center city, east Reading, 18th Ward and south of Penn areas.
• Wednesdays: Northwest, Northmont, Riverdale and Glenside areas.
Bagged leaves must be in biodegradable paper bags. No plastic bags will be accepted.
The last scheduled day for leaf collection is Dec. 6. The date is subject to change if leaf fall continues later than expected.
