The Reading Public Library held its 11th annual Cocktails & Classics fundraising event Friday at the DoubleTree by Hilton, Reading.
About 285 attended the event, which raised $127,000 for operating expenses and youth technology programs. It is the library’s biggest private fundraiser of the year, library officials said.
The event’s auction raised $14,000, which will underwrite laptops and laptop chairs to create digital pods in the Teen Loft at the main library and the youth departments of the three branches.
The pods will be designed to allow young people to feel welcome and comfortable and provide them with digital access. The hubs will bring together neighbors in a social setting, lessening isolation and social exclusion, officials said.
