The Reading Symphony Orchestra (RSO), in collaboration with Berks Ballet Theater, will present Imagery Through Sound, an immersive student concert exploring the relationship between music, movement, and storytelling. The performance will take place on Thursday, Feb. 27, at 11 a.m., at the Santander Performing Arts Center before a sold-out audience of 1,700 students and teachers from Berks County public schools, including Wilson, Fleetwood, Exeter, Oley, Reading, and Wyomissing.

The program features a curated selection of orchestral works and ballet performances designed to help students experience how music can convey imagery and emotion. Highlights include:

  • Polar Express – Silvestri
  • Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 (with Berks Ballet) – Grieg
  • Harry’s Wondrous World – John Williams
  • Excerpts from The Nutcracker (with Berks Ballet) – Tchaikovsky
  • Flight to Neverland – John Williams

Through this interactive experience, students will be encouraged to analyze musical structure, connect sound with visual elements, and use their imagination to interpret music through movement and narrative. By integrating live ballet performances with orchestral storytelling, Imagery Through Sound provides young audiences with a unique, multi-sensory introduction to the performing arts.

While this year’s event is at capacity, the Reading Symphony Orchestra remains committed to fostering music education through youth concerts, school outreach programs, and educational initiatives.
