From Reading Theater Project
The Reading Theater Project is pleased to announce the performance details for “Hero Work” by Adam Richter, the final staged reading in the Play Reading Series: Revelation. The reading will take place on Thursday, May 29, at 7 p.m., at GoggleWorks Center for the Arts’ Boscov Theatre, 200 Washington St., Reading. Free parking is available behind the building.
Julia Matthews directs Richter’s play. In “Hero Work,” mild-mannered reporter and copy-desk scourge Josh Watkins moonlights as a superhero. His biggest nemesis: Finding a work-life balance, especially when a disaster strikes the city and Josh must decide which of his identities will do the most good.
The cast features Alex Dorsheimer as Josh Watkins, Sandi Trait as Blair, Richard Bradbury as Gordon, Cat Whelan as Phoebe, John Gancar as Townes, Kevin Wade as the Mayor, Michael Shott as Teenager/Victim, and Deb Brubaker as Security Guard. Brubaker will also read the stage directions.
Reading Theater Project’s Play Reading Series this spring will connect to the season’s theme of “Illuminate” and will feature three plays by local and regional playwrights. Each is performed as a staged reading followed by a facilitated talkback with the playwright, director, and actors.
Like Reading Theater Project’s other productions, the Play Reading Series will follow the pay-what-you-will model: an audience member can choose their own price for a ticket, including $0. The recommended price is $10, and Reading Theater Project encourages those who are able to pay the $20 pay-it-forward price. This ticket pricing model is part of their Theater For All initiative to make theater more accessible to all audiences. Reading Theater Project’s season is supported by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, administered through Berks Arts, EnerSys, Visions Federal Credit Union, and M&T Bank.
Reading Theater Project’s final performance in their 2024-2025 season, In Nature’s Studio: Toytopia, will take place on Sunday, July 27, at 4 p.m., in the Reading Public Museum arboretum. More information and tickets are available on Reading Theater Project’s website, readingtheaterproject.org, or by calling 484-706-9719.
