As has been the case for the past 75 years, Gethsemane Cemetery will host the largest on-site cemetery Memorial Day tribute in Reading. This year’s event will take place at Gethsemane’s Laureldale location, 3139 Kutztown Road, on Monday, May 26, starting at 10 a.m.
“With Gethsemane being one of Berk’s County’s largest supporter of our country’s various armed services branches, it would be our hope that our community will want to come out in larger numbers than ever before and pay tribute to our deceased veterans who gave the ultimate sacrifice to their country. Gethsemane has been and will continue to be grateful for those who laid down their lives in defense of freedom as well as support the men and women currently serving in the armed forces,” said Tim Kolasa, Executive Director of Gethsemane and a proud veteran of the U.S. Marines, having served overseas in 1990 during Operation Desert Storm in Iraq.
The entire City of Reading and surrounding communities are cordially invited to attend the Memorial Day observance. The observance will begin with a 10 a.m. service/Mass officiated by Monsignor John Gavish, Pastor of St. Paul and St. Joseph Parish in Reading. The Buccaneer Alumni Drum and Bugle Corps will perform in honor of our veterans with Taps and a medley of service hymns. Light refreshments will be served afterwards.
