Reading’s Steven Torres defeats James Evans in heavyweight boxing rematch

His prediction was spot on, and indeed the fight did not make it beyond the third round.

Reading’s Steven Torres defeated James Evans of Toledo, Ohio, by a technical knockout Saturday night at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J., in a heavyweight boxing rematch. The first fight ended in a draw on New Year’s Day 2022.

As he said he would earlier in the week, Torres (6-0-1) got the upper hand on Evans (6-1-1) before the end of the third round after he landed a burst of punches that resulted in the referee stopping the fight 1:08 into the round.

Neither fighter had been in a bout longer than four rounds heading into the fight.

Weighing in at 239, Torres was 17 pounds lighter than he was in the initial fight, while Evans (225.5) was eight pounds heavier.

An evenly matched fight culminated in the third as Torres punched Evans into a corner using a strong right hand before the technical knockout was called.
