Rite Aid to close 30 more stores

Rite Aid has continued to announce the closing of more of its stores.

The company announced 30 more closings in a bankruptcy filing on Friday. All 30 stores are in Ohio and Michigan.

Since the beginning of June, Rite Aid has announced that it would close 236 stores. All but three of the stores have been in Ohio and Michigan.

Rite Aid, which was based in East Pennsboro Township near Camp Hill for decades and is now based in Philadelphia, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in October to begin restructuring to significantly reduce its debt.

Since October, the company has announced in bankruptcy filings the closing of 729 stores.

U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Michael Kaplan approved Rite Aid’s bankruptcy plan at a court hearing in June in Trenton, New Jersey, allowing the pharmacy chain to cut $2 billion in debt and turn over control of the company to a group of its lenders, according to CNBC.

Rite Aid plans to exit from bankruptcy soon, funded by $2.55 billion in financing provided by its lenders, according to Reuters.

Rite Aid had more than 2,100 stores when it filed for bankruptcy in October.
