With the goal of continuing to care for the environment and beautify the city of Reading, Public Works and other organizations in the community announced the third community celebration of park clean-up and family festivities, RIVERZILLA.
Taking place on Saturday, Aug. 9, at Riverfront Park from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., this event promises to be a day of family entertainment and educational activities.
“RIVERZILLA is a fun and family-friendly event that is all about the Schuylkill River!” said educational director of the Schuylkill River, Ayashi Ramey. “The goal of the event is to bring environmental and outdoor experiences into Riverfront Park and encourage the Reading community to steward both the park and the river. The event will feature free kayaking and biking, as well as a number of other educational tables.”
This celebration will begin with a river cleanup at 9 a.m., in which all residents of the community are invited to participate with closed, water-friendly shoes and will receive all necessary equipment, to collaborate with the maintenance of the park and the care of the environment.
Starting at 11 a.m., people will be able to enjoy free kayak demonstrations, mountain biking, outdoor games, crafts, indigenous dance, free food, and other activities.
“It seems like the perfect event for people around or in Reading to have fun outdoors trying new activities like kayaking or cycling with their friends and family,” said Lindy Shiffler, the summer Fellow at Schuylkill River Greenways.
The event is a collaboration between the Department of Public Works, Schuylkill River Greenways, the Widoktadwen Center for Native Knowledge, the Association for the Improvement of the 18th Wonder of Reading, Pennsylvania, Take It Outdoors Outfitters, and the Delaware River Watershed Education Alliance.
These community organizations launched this celebration in 2023, with the goal of connecting families with the Schuylkill River, offering entertainment for the whole family, and educating everyone about the importance of caring for the environment.
Organizers said they hope to count on your collaboration and participation in this family event.
Celebran RIVERZILLA Este Sábado Con Una Limpieza de Parques y Actividades de Entretenimiento Gratis
Con el objetivo de continuar cuidando el medioambiente y embelleciendo la ciudad de Reading, Obras Públicas, y otras organizaciones de esta comunidad, anunciaron la tercera celebración comunitaria de limpieza de parques y festividades familiares, RIVERZILLA.
Este evento que se realizará el 9 de agosto, de 9 a.m. a 3 p.m., promete ser un evento familiar, lleno de entretenimiento y actividades educativas.
“RIVERZILLA es un evento divertido y familiar que trata sobre el río Schuylkill. El objetivo del evento es traer experiencias ambientales y al aire libre al Parque Riverfront y animar a la comunidad de Reading a cuidar tanto el parque, como el río. El evento contará con kayak y ciclismo gratuito, así como una serie de otras mesas educativas,” explicó el director educativo del Schuylkill River, Ayashi Ramey, quien forma parte de los organizadores del evento.
Segun un comunicado de prensa esta celebración iniciará con una limpieza del río a las 9 a.m., en la cual todos los residentes de la comunidad, están invitados a participar con zapatos cerrados que se puedan mojar y recibirán todos los utensilios necesarios, para colaborar con el mantenimiento del lugar y el cuidado del medioambiente.
Mientras que a las 11 de la mañana las personas podrán disfrutar sin ningún costo de demostraciones de Kayak, préstamos de bicicletas de montañas, juegos al aire libre, manualidades, comida gratis y otras actividades.
“Parece el evento perfecto para las personas cerca o en Reading para divertirse al aire libre tratando nuevas actividades como el kayak o el ciclismo con sus amigos y familiares,” dijo Lindy Shiffler, con Schuylkill River Greenways.
Entre los organizadores del evento se encuentran el Departamento de Obras Públicas, Schuylkill River Greenways, el Centro Widoktadwen para el Conocimiento Nativo, la Asociación para la Mejora de la 18ª Maravilla de Reading, Pennsylvania, Take It Outdoors Outfitters y la Alianza para la Educación sobre las Cuencas Hidrográficas del Río Delaware.
Estas organizaciones comunitarias iniciaron esta celebración el año 2023, con el objetivo de conectar a las familias con el río Schuylkill, ofrecer entretenimiento para toda la familia y educar a todos sobre la importancia del cuidado del medioambiente.
