Rotary Club in Berks raises funds to battle polio

The Rotary Club of West Reading-Wyomissing held a fundraiser Wednesday evening to raise funds in the fight again polio.

The fundraiser was held at Willow Creek Brewing on Penn Avenue in West Reading and raised $350, organizers said. About 50 people attended the event.

“Polio is an evil disease that severely attacks us physically, emotionally and defeats our self-esteem,” said Rotarian Daniel Attoh who now lives in Berks County and contracted polio at the age of 3 when he lived in Liberia, West Africa.  “You do not want your kids struggling with low esteem besides the physical deformities and limitations of polio.”

The event featured custom Polio for Pint glasses and $1 from every beer sold went to Rotary’s Polio Plus fund.

Participants could also try to steal the pint glass but if they were caught, had to pay $6 to the cause, and many did .
