Roundabout on Route 12/Pricetown Road among proposed safety improvements in Berks

PennDOT is introducing plans for a project that includes a proposed roundabout to improve safety on a section of Route 12/Pricetown Road in Alsace Township.

The online plans display, which includes digital picture boards and a comment form, are available to the public on the PennDOT District 5 website until September 22. Go to bit.ly/47QO0Ib to access the plans.

Proposed safety improvements include a roundabout at the intersection of Pricetown and Elizabeth Avenue/Hillview Road, just above the Muhlenberg Township line, and a signalized intersection at Pricetown Road and Skyline Drive.

Pricetown Road will be reconstructed between Elizabeth Avenue/Hillview Road and Skyline Drive to include 8-foot shoulders.

Additional proposed work includes the replacement of the Route 12/Pricetown Road Bridge over Bernhart Creek with a precast reinforced concrete box culvert, drainage improvements, enhanced warning signs and high friction surface treatment on steep downgrades.

Construction is anticipated to begin in mid-2026 with an expected completion in 2027.

The purpose of the plans display is to introduce the project and receive public input regarding any questions or concerns. It is also an opportunity for the public to review and comment on the project’s potential effect on cultural and historical resources as mandated by federal laws.
