Route 73 is closed in eastern Berks after car sheared pole, knocking out power to 175

A stretch of Route 73 near Earl Elementary School in Earl Township remains closed after a vehicle sheared a Met-Ed pole, knocking out power to about 175 nearby customers, Berks County emergency officials said.

The crash happened about 6 a.m. between Chapel and School House roads.

A Met-Ed crew was dispatched to replace the pole. According to the FirstEnergy website, power is estimated to be restored by 10 a.m.

Details about the crash were not immediately available.
