Ryan Godown wins Freedom 76 at Grandview

Ryan Godown made his trip from New Jersey to Bechtelsville pay off Saturday night by winning the 51st Freedom 76 Modified Classic at Grandview Speedway.

Known as “The Ringoes Rocket,” Godown earned $30,000 for winning the 76-lap race that attracted 67 drivers to the one-third mile clay oval track.

Godown roared past defending champion and eight-time winner Jeff Strunk on a 52nd-lap restart and stayed in front the rest of the way.

Tim Buckwalter started on the pole and grabbed a sizable lead until a stopped car forced a restart on the 13th lap. Buckwalter held the lead on the restart.

Meme DeSantis spun in the third turn on the 24th lap and took out Frank Cozze and Brett Kressley. On the restart, Strunk swept to the outside to grab the lead.

Godown moved into second place on the 27th lap and started to track down Strunk.

The red flag was thrown on the 47th lap for a homestretch accident that blocked the track. On the restart, Strunk kept Godown behind him.

Cole Stangle brought out the final yellow when he stopped in the second turn with a flat tire. This time, Godown, the 2021 Bridgeport track champion, charged past Strunk.

Godown stayed in front over the last 24 laps to earn the win. Strunk was second, followed by Buckwalter, Duane Howard and Ryan Krachun. Rounding out the top 10 were Ryan Grim, Craig Von Dohren, Billy Pauch Jr. and Dillon Steuer.
