Santa, Mrs. Claus visit Longswamp Township tree lighting ceremony

About 140 people came out for Longswamp Township’s annual tree lighting ceremony and open house on Dec. 2.

“We had a very good turnout this year,” said Leann Sacks of Mertztown, a member of the Longswamp Township Park and Recreation Committee. “Happy to see the community support.”

Hosted by the the Longswamp Township Park and Recreation Committee, the holiday event highlights included chorus director Adam Rabenold and the Brandywine Heights Area High School Chorus led community members in singing Christmas carols. Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived via a Topton Fire Company fire truck. Later, children enjoyed story time with Mrs. Claus.

The Longswamp Township Park and Recreation Committee provided homemade pies, cookies and other snacks. Vice Chairman Mike Sacks made his famous candy cane, chocolate slivers ice cream.

About 37 families got their picture taken with Santa Claus.

“That’s more pictures than last year. This is my gift that I give to the community,” said Leann Sacks.

The Longswamp Township Park and Recreation Committee would like to thank the community for coming out and supporting them, as well as the Topton Fire Company and Santa and Mrs. Claus.

“Hope to see everyone next year,” said Sacks. “Have a Merry Christmas and happy holidays.”
