Reading Area Community College students Marissa Fortune and Autumn Breslin received $1,000 Crime Alert Berks County scholarships to pursue careers in law enforcement. Both plan to graduate in May.
Fortune, who works as a registration clerk in RACC’s literacy program, received the 2023 Rohrbach scholarship. Breslin of Boyertown is the 2023 Crime Alert Scholar.
In RACC’s announcement of the awards, Fortune said the scholarship is inspirational. “This scholarship showed me that I am capable of achieving my goals and hold me accountable,” Fortune said in RACC’s announcement of the awards. “This will be one of my greatest accomplishments, and Crime Alert Berks County has played a large role in helping me achieve this.”
Breslin said: “This scholarship helped ease the financial stress of being a mother to a young son, a student, and an employee. I am honored.”
The money for the scholarships was provided to the Foundation for RACC through an endowed scholarship initiated by Crime Alert Berks County executive board members, President Rick Periandi, and Treasurer Joe Periandi. The Rohrbach Scholarship was established to honor the late Crime Alert Berks County founder Barry Rohrbach.
Information is provided by the colleges involved.
