The Schuylkill-Berks Baseball League will have a different look for the 2024 season. And a different name.
The summer baseball league for players 16-19, which left American Legion Baseball last year and became an independent league, announced in January that it is merging with the former Lebanon County Legion League for the 2024 season. The Lebanon league voted this month to also leave American Legion Baseball and become independent.
The new league will be called the United Baseball League and will operate under the Schuylkill-Berks bylaws and follow NFHS rules for the 2024 season. More details as far as total number of teams and schedules will be released in the near future.
“For the Lebanon teams, playing under the NFHS rules are what players use in school ball and it’s a myriad collection of rules in the summer under Legion,” said Tim Schaeffer, former president of the Lebanon County League. “This will make the transition from high school to summer baseball transparent to the players, a big plus.”
Schuylkill-Berks president Ed Lloyd agreed: “We’re thrilled to have Lebanon join us and we’re looking forward to making this marriage work. The priority right now is to develop a league alignment, a schedule and a league championship format for the 2024 season. We’ll begin working on those things immediately.”
