Schuylkill County Conservancy July programs

The Schuylkill County Conservancy has the following events scheduled for July:

• Woodland Steward Site Visit – Riparian Area Tree Planting. Saturday, July 13, 9:30-11:30 a.m., 1861 Long Run Rd, Schuylkill Haven.

Tour a riparian area and learn what is needed to achieve a successful tree planting along a creek buffer.  Property owner Joseph Michalik will review the steps that were involved in his project, such as: selecting suitable tree species, controlling competing and invasive species, protecting trees from deer browse and caring for trees after planting to ensure their survival. State forester Will Thomas will discuss opportunities to secure cost-share programs to improve your forest and riparian areas. For more information, email: schuylkillcountyconservancy@gmail.com.

• Geology and Landscapes of Frog Hollow Nature Area. Tuesday, July 16, 6:30-8 p.m. Frog Hollow, Stone Mountain Road, Wayne Township.

Join Jeri Jones of Jones Geological Services for a walk through this new area talking about the rocks beneath your feet, the evolution of wetlands and surface features not usually visible.
