Schuylkill County Historical Society sets August events

The following events are scheduled in August at the Schuylkill County Historical Society, 305 N. Centre St., Pottsville.

Hillside SPCA manager Sherrie Schafer and her staff will present the history of the Pottsville animal shelter on Wednesday, Aug. 10, at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free for members and $5 for the general public. For more information, call the society at 570-622-7540.

Certified antiques appraiser George Blum will be available on Wednesday, Aug. 17, at 6:30 p.m. to evaluate and tell the stories of objects that people bring to show him. Admission is free for members and $5 for the general public. Please call the society at 570-622-7540 for more information or to make an appointment for an appraisal. For members, appraisal fees are $5 for one item or $10 for three. Fees for the general public are $6 for one item and $15 for three.

“Tommy Dorsey, Livin’ in a Great Big Way” by Peter Levinson will be this month’s selection of the Schuylkill County Historical Society and radio station T102’s Local Reads Book Club. Trolley expert George Gulla will present a program on Pottsville streetcars on Wednesday, Aug. 31, at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free for members and $5 for the general public. For more information, call the society at 570-622-7540.
