Schuylkill County waterways stocked with trout for fall and winter

While most anglers only think of trout stocking ahead of the popular spring trout fishing season, when more than 3 million trout are stocked statewide, the Fish and Boat Commission also stocks dozens of waterways in the fall and winter months.

From October through December, the PFBC will stock about 130,000 trout into some of the most popular lakes and creeks, providing a chance to enjoy fishing amid cool temperatures, beautiful fall scenery, and with fewer crowds of competing anglers.

In Schuylkill County, Tuscarora Lake was stocked on Oct. 7. Locust Lake is scheduled to be stocked on Dec. 14. Berks County’s Blue Marsh Lake was stocked on Oct. 13, and Kaercher Creek Dam is scheduled to be stocked on Dec. 14.

While the trout stocked now will provide immediate fishing opportunities in the fall, many of the trout will replenish lakes that are popular for ice fishing in the winter months.
