Schuylkill Haven parish among participants in March for Life

Members of St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Parish in Schuylkill Haven and others from as far away as Scranton boarded a bus to attend the annual March for Life on Jan. 20 in Washington.

About seven months after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 case that legalized abortion nationwide, tens of thousands of marchers from across the country gathered to push for their vision of a post-Roe America.

Faith leaders, politicians and sports figures were among the featured speakers. Pennsylvania U.S. Reps.  Dan Meuser and Mike Kelly hosted a small reception for the group.

The March for Life changed its route this year, ending at the Capitol instead of the Supreme Court building, sending the message that federal leaders should restore protections to the unborn now that they have the power to do so.

According to St. Ambrose parishioner Carol Bylone, program coordinator Dana Seisler received a call seeking assistance for a young mother of four who had been at the Planned Parenthood Clinic in Reading at the same time the march was being held. The mother was there to have an abortion but decided against it after praying with a pro-life supporter outside the clinic.

Still needing financial assistance to care for her young family, the supporter reached out to those parishioners attending the march who, through their efforts, were able to provide an enormous amount of food and monetary gifts.

“We were also able to find long term programs to help the family,” Bylone said. “This is just one example of why pro-lifers will continue to march.”
