Schuylkill Historical Society sets activities for October

The Schuylkill County Historical Society has some Halloween-related events on its schedule for October along with a history lecture.

Historical researcher and writer Lindsay Dierolf will discuss the history of the Ellis Island immigration station at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, at the Schuylkill County Historical Society, 305 N. Centre St., Pottsville, Admission is free to society members and $5 for the general public. For more information, call 570-622-7540.

The annual Haunted History Tours in Pottsville will take place on three consecutive Saturdays, Oct. 16, 23 and 30. The Haunted Downtown Tour, at 6 and 8 p.m., begins and ends at the society, 305 N. Centre St. The Charles Baber Cemetery Tour, at 6 p.m. only, begins and ends at the cemetery’s main entrance at 14th and Market streets. Each tour is $10 for society members and $12 for the general public. Reservations are required. For more information, call 570-622-7540.

Charles J. Adams III, author of “Berks and Schuylkill Counties Ghost Stories,” will speak at the society at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 27. Admission is free to members and $5 for the general public. For more information, call 570-622-7540.
