State police at Hamburg have cited a Schuylkill County man for running a stop sign after his SUV collided with a car Jan. 19 on Route 61 near the Walmart Supercenter in Tilden Township.
According to troopers:
Matthew D. Schultz, 37, of Pottsville was southbound shortly after 5 am. approaching the intersection with Lowland Road. A car driven by Nancy M. Burkert, 58, of Hamburg was stopped at the light in the far left-turn lane, facing the opposite direction, waiting for the green arrow signal to turn left onto Lowland.
Burkert started to turn left when the turn signal changed green, but Schultz didn’t stop for a red signal and struck Burkert’s car nearly head-on, causing it to spin before becoming lodged on the raised concrete median.
Schultz’s vehicle ended up straddling both southbound lanes.
She was transported by Hamburg Ambulance to Geisinger St. Luke’s Hospital, Orwigsburg, for minor injuries.
Schultz did not need emergency medical treatment.
Hamburg Fire Company assisted at the scene. Both vehicles needed to be towed.
