Schuylkill sheriff’s office warns residents of scam

The Schuylkill County Sheriff’s Office is advising people of a scam involving someone impersonating a deputy sheriff.

In a Facebook post Friday, the sheriff’s office says that if anyone receives a call from 610-600-5373 they are to hang up the phone.

Chief Deputy Sheriff Shawn Butler said, “We won’t just call someone on the phone.” Deputies will knock on doors and leave business cards.

The office received a call Friday from former Chief Deputy Sheriff Brian Tobin, who said someone told him a woman got a call from a man pretending to be a specific deputy.

“The person was upset because they didn’t know of anything they did wrong,” Tobin said.
