Shawn Williams to return as Reading Fightin Phils manager in 2022

Shawn Williams will be back as manager of the Reading Fightin Phils in 2022, the Philadelphia Phillies announced Tuesday.

This will be Williams’ third season leading the Fightins. He guided Reading to a 48-65 record in 2021 and to a league-best 80-50 mark in 2019. He also was slated to be the manager in 2020, when the season was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Williams, 38, has been a manager in the Phillies organization since 2014 and has a 452-428 record. Joining Williams will be hitting coach Tyler Henson, bench/position coach Mycal Jones and pitching coach Matt Hockenberry

Bruce Peditto will be the strength and conditioning coach, and Andrew Dodgson will be the athletic trainer.

Henson, who played for Reading in 2013, is back for his third season as a coach for the Fightins. Jones was a coach with the Rookie Florida Complex League Phillies last season. Hockenberry, who pitched for Reading in 2016 and ’17, moves up from High Single-A Jersey Shore.
