Six professional players, including four who will be in the U.S. Open later this month, will play in the annual Ellesse Pro Tennis Challenge Thursday and Friday at the Emkey Tennis Garden in Wyomissing.
All proceeds from the event benefit the Cor Tennis Program for the city of Reading for underserved youth tennis scholarships, according to tournament director Ryan Knarr.
Knarr said the six players who will participate in the two-day event are: Arthur Cazaux, Kyrian Jacquet, Jan Choinski, KP Pannu, Michael Zheng and Felix Corwin.
Cazaux, from France, is the highest ranked of the six players with a 98th ranking in the world. He is already in the main draw for the U.S. Open, with the first round of the Open starting on Aug. 26. His countryman, Jacquet, is ranked 215th with Choinski ranked 223rd and Zheng, an NCAA finalist in singles this past spring, ranked 925th. Those three will be playing the following week in U.S. Open qualifying matches in New York.
Pannu, the current No. 1 player in New Zealand, is ranked 445th in the world and Corwin, from the United States, is ranked 541st.
Round robin matches will be held Thursday a 1, 3, 5 and 7 p.m., with round robin matches on Friday at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The final is at 4 p.m.
Tickets are $25 per day or $45 for both days.
