The following information comes from police reports and court records.
Crash: State police responded to an accident at 508 E. Grand Ave., Tower City, on Jan. 6 at about 7 a.m. Rodney Betz Jr., 57, Pine Grove, struck the driver side mirror of a truck, causing damage. Both vehicles were driven from the scene. There were no injuries.
Accidental Death: On Jan. 12, state police responded to E. Main Street in Hegins Township for a reported accidental death. When police arrived they found the man choked while eating his food. Life saving measures were performed unsuccessfully by emergency personnel.
Theft: State police responded to Route 61 south in North Manheim Township on Jan. 10 for a reported theft. Credit cards, a Social Security card, a driver’s license, insurance card, bank card, credit cards and cash were taken. Police continue to investigate.
Simple Harass: State police responded to Front Street in Cressona on Jan. 5 at about 4:20 a.m. for a physical altercation between a husband and wife. The husband, Tyron Chick, 38, Cressona, punched his wife, causing a cut across her cheek, swollen and bruised eye and a swollen and bloody nose. Chick was taken into custody, arraigned and transported to Schuylkill County Prison.
Crash: On Jan. 4 at about midnight, state police responded to an accident on Route 443 in Pine Grove Township. Jarred Hewes, 21, Pine Grove, lost control of his vehicle on the icy road. The car spun out and left the road and struck a utility pole, causing disabling damage. Neither Moyer or his passenger were injured.
Crash: On Jan. 3 at about 10:45 p.m., state police responded to an accident on Route 443 in Pine Grove Township. Kendra Gerber’s SUV was disabled in the westbound lane of Route 443 due to icy conditions. Paul Daubert, 62, Pine Grove, then lost control of his vehicle on the icy road and struck Gerber’s vehicle on the front end. The impact caused disabling damage. There were no injuries.
Hit and Run Crash: On Dec. 29 at about 1:30 p.m., state police responded to an accident on Peach Mountain Road and Wade Road in Norwegian Township. Leah Miller, 25, Pottsville, was driving south on Peach Mountain Road and a Dodge Dakota was traveling in the same direction behind her. When traffic began to slow down the Dodge Dakota crashed into the rear of her 2006 Dodge Ram and fled the scene. The Dodge Dakota was maroon in color. There was no further identifying information provided. The Dodge Ram had minor damage and no injuries were reported. Driver exchange form was provided.
Crash: On Dec. 29 at about 1:15 p.m., state police responded to an accident on Burn Street in Mechanicsville. Kora Beaver, 24, Pottsville, rolled down an embankment, and her vehicle came to a stop on its roof. Beaver fled the scene because she did not have a valid driver’s license. The vehicle was towed.
Crash: State police responded to a two-vehicle accident on Dec. 22 at about 4:30 p.m. on South Yohe Street at Wiconisco Street in Porter Township. James Huey, 49, Muir, was making a turn when his vehicle crashed into one driven by Chester Handfield, 58, Middleburg. Passengers in Handfield’s SUV were transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital – East, and the vehicle was towed.
Theft: On Dec. 22 at about 3:15 p.m., state police were called to TJ Maxx, Fairlane Village Mall in Norwegian Township for a retail theft. It was determined approximately more than $900 in merchandise was stolen.
Crash: State police responded to an accident in North Manheim Township on Dec. 19 at about 5:30 p.m. Janelle Cappel, 34, Pottsville, struck a deer on Cressona Road, south of Township Highway 711. Her vehicle was towed.
Crash: On Dec. 19 at about 2:20 p.m., state police responded to an accident on Route 209 in Norwegian Township. Thomas Penberth, 58, Pottsville, was turning out of a parking lot when his vehicle struck one driven by Cameron Wilson, 23, Minersville. Wilson’s vehicle then hit one driven by Jean Kalochie, 66, Pottsville. Wilson’s vehicle had disabling damage and was towed.
