Stallions’ offense proves too much for Rebels as Reading falls to Syracuse 132-113

Reading trailed early and could not muster a comeback as the Rebels fell to the Syracuse Stallions 132-113 in a TBL Northeast Division matchup Friday at the Geigle.

The Rebels (6-9) never led, but created a little momentum in the third quarter after trailing 64-43 at halftime.

Reading High grad Trenity Burdine scored 19 of his game-high 28 points in the third quarter to cut the lead to five points at 89-84.

The Stallions (10-4) went on a 10-4 run to close out the quarter and take a 99-88 lead into the fourth.

Syracuse continued its offensive dominance to put the game out of reach early in the fourth.

The Stallions opened on a 10-2 run and outscored the Rebels 17-10 in the first six minutes of the fourth quarter. With the score 116-98 and six minutes left, Syracuse kept the pressure on and Reading failed to get within 10 points the rest of the way.

The Rebels failed to find an answer for the Stallions’ 3-point shooting as Syracuse made 13-of-31 shots from beyond the arc. The Stallions scored 31 points off turnovers and got 50 points from their bench compared to Reading’s 33 bench points.

Syracuse came out hot early, scoring on its first four possessions to take a 10-7 lead. The Stallions then went on a 12-4 run to take a 22-11 lead midway through the first quarter.

Syracuse led 39-26 after the first quarter as the Stallions scored at will early and made six 3-pointers in the first quarter.

The scoring slowed in the second quarter but Reading was unable to cut into the deficit as the Rebels were outscored 25-17.

Kutztown University grad Anthony Lee and Berks Catholic grad Donovon Jack tied for a team-high nine rebounds and each had seven defensive rebounds.

Christian Nobles scored a team-high 27 points for Syracuse and Charlie Marquardt made 7-of-13 3-pointers while scoring 25 points.

Reading returns to action on May 7 as they hit the road to take on the Tri-State Admirals.
