Temple home damaged by blaze; cause under investigation

A blaze in Temple late Sunday heavily damaged a house under renovation in Temple, fire officials said.

Muhlenberg Township Fire & Rescue was dispatched about 10 p.m. to the 1000 block of Midway Avenue, near the Muhlenberg Township Athletic Association fields after multiple 911 callers reported a house on fire.

Fire Chief Alex Lupco said the first-arriving crews encountered a significant amount of fire in the area of the back porch, with flames extending to the roof of the single-family home.

No one was home at the time, he said.

Crews quickly got the upper hand on the flames, preventing the home from being destroyed, Lupco said. However, there was significant damage.

The last crew returned to the station after 3 a.m. Monday.

The state police fire marshal’s unit is investigating the cause.
