The Berks school with the most district baseball titles is …

Berks County schools have a rich history in District 3 baseball winning 36 titles since 1977, including Kutztown in Class 2A last year.

But which Berks school has the most titles?

Gov. Mifflin? Always a baseball powerhouse.

Wilson? Another team that strikes fear into opponents.

Twin Valley? Always fields a quality nine.

The school with the most District 3 baseball championship banners hanging in its gymnasium is Oley Valley.

The Lynx have won nine district titles, second most in the district to Chambersburg’s 11.

Oley Valley’s last title was in the Class 3A tournament in 2021 when the Lynx advanced to the state finals, losing to Tyrone 5-0.

When the Lynx won in 2021 it was technically their second 3A district championship in a row because the 2020 tournament was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In both of those championship games, Garet Blankenbiller was the winning pitcher for Oley Valley.

The 6-5 right-hander was masterful in the 2019 title game and threw a 2-hit gem against Trinity in a 5-1 victory in 2021.

Two years earlier, Blankenbiller fired a one-hitter as the Lynx beat Biglerville 9-0.

Blankenbiller now pitches at Millersville University.

Oley Valley’s seven other district titles came in 1984, 1985, 1988), 1989, 1992 (co-champs with Biglerville), 2011, and 2016, all in Class 2A.

Oley Valley, 11-7 and the seventh seed, begins its quest for a 10th district title on Monday in a Class 3A quarterfinal game at No. 2 Trinity (13-7) at 4:30 p.m.

Seven other Berks teams, including Kutztown in 2A, will be playing to make school history along with advancing to the PIAA tournament.

Along with Oley Valley and Kutztown, top-seeded Gov. Mifflin (5A), Wilson (6A), Twin Valley (5A), Muhlenberg (5A), Berks Catholic (4A) and Fleetwood (4A) qualified.

Kutztown, the reigning 2A district champ, ranks second among Berks schools with six district titles.

The Cougars defeated Halifax 5-1 in last year’s title game.

The two teams will meet again Monday in the semifinal round of the 2A tournament with Halifax seeded first with an 18-2 record. Kutztown is the fourth seed and is 11-9. There is only a semifinal round and championship game in Class 2A.

Wyomissing, which did not qualify for this year’s district play, ranks third among Berks schools with four district titles, the last coming in 1993 in Class 2A.

Three schools, Wilson, Muhlenberg and Brandywine Heights have won three district titles since 1977.

Wilson won 6A titles in 2021 and 2019.

The Bulldogs, who are seeded fourth in this year’s 6A tournament, also won a 3A title in 1988.

Wilson (13-6) won the Berks County championship on Monday by beating Gov. Mifflin 10-3.

Wilson opens district play Monday in the quarterfinals after receiving  a bye. They will play the winner of Friday’s Manheim Township-Cedar Crest opening round game.

Muhlenberg won 3A titles in 1980, 1982 and 2008.

Brandywine Heights won 2A titles in 2004, 2009 and 2012.

Berks Catholic, Boyertown and Reading High have each won two titles. Note: Reading High’s first title was in 1950 in 3A. No records are available from 1951 to 1976 on the District 3 website.

Berks Catholic won a 2A title in 2014 and after two classes were added, the Saints won a 4A title in 2018.

Boyertown won 3A titles in 1992 (co-champs with Chambersburg) and 1995.

Along with 1950, Reading High won a 3A title in 1983.

Berks County teams with one title are Berks Christian (2010, 1A), Conrad Weiser (2010, 3A), Hamburg (2016, 3A) and Twin Valley (2009, 3A).
